STUDENT MEDIA PROGRAM
Helping to support The State Press, the ASU Web Devil and SDTV—Channel 2
Every semester more than 200 ASU students get involved putting out the student newspaper, running the newspaper web site and doing programming for the student cable television station. Many insist they learn more by “doing” than they ever get out of a class, but the truth is, classroom instruction and the application of skills taught in the classroom go hand-in-hand. The Cronkite school believes in the importance of providing practical learning experiences -- and it believes in the importance of a free and vigorous student press.
The student press, however, needs help. At ASU, student media survive largely on advertising revenue, and proceeds haven’t kept up with technology and other needs. That’s where you come in.
How You Can Help
- Join the Front Page Society by pledging $500 to $1,000. Your name will go on a plaque in The State Press newsroom, and the money will be used to underwrite the costs of putting out the five-day-a-week newspaper. Printing costs alone for The State Press total more than $250,000 a year!
- Pledge $500 to $1,500 and become one of our Technology Heroes. This money will go for badly needed computer software and hardware and digital cameras for the newsroom, as well as video cameras, editing equipment, microphones and lighting for SDTV-Channel 2. We have been unable to make any major technology purchases for almost two years! Your name will go on a plaque in the lobby of Student Media.
- Sponsor an Editor’s Chair for The State Press or the ASU Web Devil with a pledge of $1,000 or more. Your name will be – literally – engraved on the editor’s chair! This money will go to help underwrite the cost of training and paying student editors.
- Join The State Press Hall of Fame Society with a pledge of greater than $1,500. A special plaque will be placed in a “Hall of Fame” corridor in Student Media. All funds raised will be used for production, technology and making sure our students have the resources they need to do great journalism!
- Donations of less than $500 can be made to our general State Press Campaign Fund; all donations will be gratefully acknowledged.
