Age: 38
Occupation: Insurance Agency Owner

Why are you running for election?
"I've had a lot of leadership roles in the city of Tempe, and I'd like to make a difference in the community."

What experience qualifies you for this position?
Jakubek's leadership positions include 2006 Businesswoman of the Year for the city of Tempe, small business chair for the city of Tempe and the Maple-Ash Neighborhood Association President.

What, in your opinion, is the most important issue of this campaign and why?
"I have a few, really. Revitalizing Tempe neighborhoods is a big one. Pride of ownership for neighborhoods, especially around ASU is one. Also, safe neighborhoods so people feel comfortable walking at night and so forth."

What kind of relationship would you hope to have with ASU?
"I have a good relationship now, and I want to continue to have a good relationship. I appreciate things they do, like building new dorms to help with some of the housing issues. Really, ASU is the main economic base in Tempe, so it's very important to have that relationship."

Why would ASU students want to elect you?
"For a fresh new perspective, someone who is a business owner for the past 11 years and is not a politician."

What is the No. 1 thing you think needs to change in Tempe and why?
"The property taxes. The rate needs to be lower. They were inflated when property values went up two years ago, and the money can't even be spent until a bond is passed and voters haven't even passed that bond yet — so it's just sitting in an account."

What do you feel are some of the most positive contributions students make to the community?
"They increase revenue. They get educated and become good employees. They provide a vibrant, young feel to the community, especially in downtown Tempe."

What do you feel are some of the more negative contributions students make to the community?
"I don't think the students in general are negative. I think that some people are negative, especially those who don't value the places they live."

What do you feel you can contribute to the community if elected?
"My leadership skills and my passion for the city and making it a better place to live."
