Police Beat: Woman goes to nightclub, leaves child home alone

Tempe Police reported the following incident March 10:

  • A 22-year-old Tempe woman was arrested on the 1100 block of West Baseline Road in the early morning of March 10 on suspicion of child abuse, police reported.

    The woman left her 5-year-old son alone for about five hours from 10 p.m. on March 9 to 4 a.m. on March 10 to go to a downtown Phoenix nightclub, according to the police report.

    When officials entered her apartment, they found the child hiding under a blanket and terrified of being left alone, police reported.

    The woman, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the arrest, was transported and booked into Tempe City Jail, according to the report.

    Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

    • A 30-year-old Tempe woman was arrested on the 2000 block of East Broadway Road shortly after midnight on March 9 on suspicion of aggravated assault, police reported.

      The woman stabbed her boyfriend three times, and a witness identified her as having been with him and making stabbing motions toward him at the time of the incident, according to the police report.

      The boyfriend underwent surgery and is in stable condition, police said.

      The woman was booked into Tempe City Jail.

    • A 46-year-old Tempe woman was arrested on the 700 block of East Southern Avenue the evening of March 10 on suspicion of shoplifting, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia, police reported.

      The woman concealed $18.70 worth of merchandise from a 99-cent store in her handbag and walked out of the store, according to the police report.

      In her purse, they found a clear glass pipe with white residue and a white crystal substance that appeared to be methamphetamine in a clear plastic baggie, police reported.

      The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail.


    Tempe police reported the following incident Wednesday:

    • A 41-year-old Tempe man was arrested on the 700 block of West University Drive on Tuesday evening, police reported, on suspicion of five counts of sale of dangerous drugs, one count of possession of dangerous drugs for sale, one count of possession of dangerous drugs and one count of possession of marijuana.

      The man had sold usable quantities of methamphetamine to undercover officers on five different occasions between Jan. 11 and March 7, according to the police report.

      At the time of the arrest, the man was in possession of dangerous drugs and marijuana, police reported.

      He was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge.


    Tempe Police reported the following incident Thursday:

    • A 22-year-old Phoenix man was arrested on the 5000 block of South 47th Place in Phoenix early Thursday morning on suspicion of a domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal damage and possession of marijuana, police reported.

      After they had gotten in a fight, the man attempted to choke his girlfriend in their apartment, according to the report. He also threw a glass at her and bit her to the point where she was bleeding, police reported.

      While in the back of a police car, the man dropped two baggies of marijuana, according to the police report.

      He was booked into Tempe City Jail where he was held to see a judge on the domestic violence charges.


    Tempe Police reported the following incident Friday:

    • A 22-year-old Tempe man was arrested at the intersection of West 23rd Street and South Priest Drive on Thursday evening on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and a probation violation, police reported
      A records check revealed the man had an outstanding warrant, police reported. He admitted a clear plastic baggy containing a usable quantity of white powder substance, believed to be cocaine, was his, according to the report.

      The man was held to see a judge for the outstanding warrant.
