OPINIONS
Opinions: No clue If you haven't noticed, today marks the five-year anniversary of the Iraq War. But we think you noticed — mainly because you didn't have much choice while looking at any of the 19 preceding pages or the giant "5" up front. However, the real issue here isn't whether or not you did notice, it's whether or not you wanted to notice, because if you're anything like us, then you probably didn't. After all, it serves as an overwhelming reality check.
Opinions: Find a candidate, find a solution MASCHOFF: When our fair country declared unofficial war in Iraq or on Iraq (who really knows anymore?), President Bush's approval rating was nearly 92 percent. Now, five years later, his approval rating has consistently stayed in the lower 30 percentile, showing that most Americans have tired of the way our president is handling not only this current war — which has claimed nearly 3990 lives — but also our foreign and domestic policies in general.
Opinions: Gaining perspective SPIVACK: It was around this time five years ago that the United States began its invasion and subsequent seizure of Iraq, signaling the beginning of what remains a terribly unpopular, significantly horrible war. Five years ago, instead of watching the NCAA Tournament, I watched bombs drop in various forms of U.S. technological superiority. I remember it vividly, with a brother in the Marine Corps, watching nervously, upset and unbelievably tense. |
