OPINIONS
Opinions: Breaking the mold
If you pull a slice of bread out of a bag and it happens to have green and brown spots of disgustingness all over it, you typically have three options.

First, you can make a sandwich. This is not advisable. Second, you can feed the ducks. This is slightly more advisable. And third, you can throw that nasty junk in the nearest trash receptacle. This is obviously the best choice.

Opinions: Bush: A commander in grief
SACKETT: On Tuesday, President Bush got slapped by his home state of Texas. But we'll get back to that in a moment.

First, we should look at his other big slap treatment. This first instance of Bush's receiving a palm-full to his face was in 2004 when the World Court gave Mexico a win over the United States in a lawsuit. In true Bush fashion, he threw an "I don't need nobody" tantrum and pulled the U.S. out from under the court's jurisdiction.

Opinions: Six years for a degree?
MAPES: The four-year college degree is practically a thing of the past. In a nation where things are becoming faster and more efficient by the second, why is it actually taking longer to achieve a bachelor's degree? Shouldn't our country's education system be growing increasingly effective and accelerated along with our technology?

The Internet has brought about vast forms of media interchange to where we can access any information we could possibly want to know while sitting on the toilet and playing with our cell phone. With such quick and easy availability, it should be easier to accomplish our educational goals.

Opinions: Ignoring the side effects
SPIVACK: Turn on your television, and among the dizzying array of noise you're guaranteed to see, you're also likely to see an assortment of advertisements relating to prescription drugs, all appealing to those who may or may not be sick. Most of us observe this nonchalantly. I, for one, had trouble conceptualizing these advertisements — they just seem to fall into the gaps and become normal.
