Yesterday, I had the pleasure of traveling to Maricopa to watch my little sister play in a high school softball game. The following are things I learned during the seven-inning game:
Winning the game seemed to be secondary to which team had the better cheers. My favorite: "Why you wasn't lookin', my homie was a bookin', she stole on you," clap, clap, "she stole on you."
High school kids look way younger now than when I was in school.
Saying, "It's OK, we still love you," after a strikeout was the norm.
Girl's sports can be just as exciting, if not more, than guy's sports. My alma mater, Antelope Union High School, turned three double plays and squeaked out a 4-3, come-from-behind thriller.
At the end, the girls laughed, hugged and even joked around with the girls from the opposing team, showing deep down, no matter how much money professional athletes make or how serious they seem to take each game, sports were meant to be fun.
