OPINIONS
Opinions: Cast away
In our minds, there's a definitive list of things we thought we'd never hear in our lifetimes.

This list includes the likes of the vice president of the United States of America shooting a man in the face, Ryan Seacrest being a legitimate television star, Shaq playing successfully on the run 'n gun Phoenix Suns, and an angry mob converging and snuffing out the Olympic torch.

Opinions: Dissecting an opinion
PELTON: I did something very, very wrong: I pissed off my grandparents.

Yes, I'm talking about those sweet and lovable old people who will let you sneak in an extra cookie before dinner after your mom said no.

Last week, I wrote an article about Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and I explained why I dislike him. I received a lot of support for my candidness and detail, but I also received a lot of negative feedback with people such as my grandparents thinking that I wasn't being "objective."

Opinions: Men, porn and money
SACKETT: I recently came across a thought-provoking article in the journal NeuroReport. Don't ask what I was doing reading it, I really couldn't tell you. Interestingly though, according to research carried out at Stanford University, there seems to be a link in the brain between sex and taking financial risk.

Apparently, this only affects men, at least that's what the female researcher must have assumed as she saw it fit to test only men. This study relied heavily upon brain scans.

Opinions: A feudal attempt to save the economy
MAPES: Since there is no superhero with the power to rescue the economy, it is time to step in and fix the problem yourself … by shopping your way into a cavernous hole of debt that you could not possibly repay if you lived to be 200 years old. By stimulating the economy and obliterating your credit, we could collectively save the government a whole lot of hassle.

Sure, it may ruin the chances of ever owning your own home and will probably result in the repossession of all your worldly things, but it would be worth it to get those tired headlines about how we are in a "slump" and could be entering a time of "economic hardship" out of the news. Does the media not realize that by proliferating such news, they actually create the economic crises?
