Students show off green company to Wal-Mart

Along with other green policies the company has instituted, the carbon emitted from operation is neutralized. ASU student-created Green Taxi Cab may not have come away with the gold at a recent business plan competition, but they earned a little green.

RESCUE ME: Sen. Barbara Leff, R-Paradise Valley, standing next to an automated external defibrillator stationed in the Senate building at the Arizona State Capitol, sponsored a bill that would exempt from liability good Samaritans who try to save lives with AEDs. Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the bill into law this week. When someone suffers cardiac arrest, timing is everything. That's the reasoning behind legislation signed into law this week that will exempt good Samaritans from civil liability when they use automated external defibrillators to help those who suffer heart attacks.

When GlobalResolve, an ASU-affiliated initiative, traveled to the African country of Ghana in May 2007, the group came back with a challenge for students in the Polytechnic Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or MMET, program: Create a method for producing ethanol biofuel out of corn using only resources that would be readily available to Ghanaian villagers.

Lawmaker revives effort to define marriage

Rep. Russell Pearce A Republican lawmaker has revived an attempt to have Arizona voters vote whether to define marriage as a union of one man and one woman.

Police Beat: Sigma Pi letters painted on Sun Angel Stadium
Between midnight and 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, an unknown suspect or suspects vandalized Sun Angel Stadium by spray painting the Greek letters for "Sigma Pi" on the outer edge of the northeast long jump pit, police reported.

The Memorial Union was closed Tuesday for the second time this school year due to a fire alarm, but this time it was reopened after just 20 minutes.

Lawmaker to modify divisive proposal
A state representative said Tuesday that he plans to modify a Senate bill that would, if passed, ban public schools and universities from teaching values that contradict American ideals and Western civilization.

OKed budget may cost ASU $12 million
After months of negotiations, the Legislature and governor agreed last week on a fix for this fiscal year's estimated $1.2 billion budget deficit — and ASU is footing $5.25 million of the bill so far.

Valley residents have close encounter with mysterious lights
