OPINIONS
Opinions: Until "tomorrow" It's been less than two years and two months since I reported my first article for The State Press. It was a lunch lecture by President Crow, and I was pumped. I situated myself in a nondescript corner of the Old Main ballroom and pulled out my reporter's notebook, a trapper-keeper's worth of writing utensils (in case one or 50 stopped working) and my new digital recorder to capture every thrilling second.
Opinions: A series of rhetorical questions for fools KING: Last week, Rep. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, proposed that public schools and universities in Arizona be barred from teaching values that contradict those of American and Western civilization. Well, great, I can't think of a single case in history when such a law was passed and something bad happened. Can you? I'm not going to talk about the difficulties of defining what would be an American versus an un-American thing to say or teach — that would be wasting paper, which, coincidentally, is a very un-American thing to do. Instead, I want to focus on something more critical to the discussion: the type of person who would suggest such a law.
Opinions: Feeling the heat LIVINGWOOD: As I felt summer nearing, and sensed how we're all dreaming about our vacations to … our parent's homes (free room, board, AND cable!), I couldn't help but want to come up with a perfect column to leave students with deep questions to erase with our summer antics. In fact, I came up with a pretty good idea. As I was back at my mom's house washing clothes, or watching my nephews, or maybe running my underground drug empire, I saw the old faithful East Valley Tribune on the kitchen table. |
